Highland Park Middle School takes pride in its Spanish Immersion Program, the continuation of the programs at Adams Spanish Immersion Elementary School, Paul & Sheila Wellstone Spanish Dual Immersion Program,  and Riverview Spanish Dual Immersion Program.  Students develop high levels of fluency and literacy in Spanish while meeting all of the standards of the regular St. Paul Public Schools middle school curriculum as well as the academic requirements of the   Middle Years Programme of the International Baccaleaureate Programme.

At Highland Park Middle School, students in the Spanish Immersion Program take up to four core curricular areas in Spanish - Math, Science, Social Studies and Spanish Language Arts.  All students take English Language Arts or English as a Second Language classes as well, along with a variety of electives.  Below is a list of our Spanish Immersion Program staff:

Occasionally we have family events and parent/staff meetings.  Family events include activities such as bowling nights, bonfire and marshmallow roasts, ice skating, hayrides, etc.  Our meetings help communication with families and are often about team plans and immersion news as well as curriculum or scheduling changes and articulation with Highland Park Senior High, where our Spanish Immersion Program continues.  Camp Saint Croix and Eagle Bluff trips have served to build student and teacher team community.

In addition to a three day, two night trip to the Eagle Bluff Environmental Education Center every other year, Spanish Immersion students participate in and have been very successful in History Day and Geography Bee competitions, Poetry Slams, Spanish language Model United Nations and Service Learning Projects. Our Spanish Immersion students become involved in many school-wide activities at Highland Park Middle School and Highland Park Senior High and are a part of the larger community in this way.
