Welcome to Flipside!

Flipside combines learning and fun during out-of-school times!

Flipside offers a wide variety of FREE, quality engaging programs for youth, based on their interests. The program is designed to help young people discover their interests and talents while developing a greater sense of belonging at school. Flipside has a full-time program coordinator at each school to provide student & family support, program planning, oversite, evaluation and improvements throughout the year.

Fall Transportation Changes

Yellow bus transportation will be provided at Flipside locations offering afterschool programs. We are not able to provide transportation for before school programs due to the unavailability of buses. However due to rising costs and reduced funding, our bussing will be dependent on youth attendance. If youth do not attend regularly, bus stops may be eliminated to reduce costs. It will be more important than in past years, for youth to attend regularly to ensure they have access to transportation. It is also important that if you plan to provide your own transportation after the program, that you please indicate this below.

Flipside Fall Registration will open at most sites the week of September 16th. Please use this link to access the online registration form. Printed forms will be available at your school with your Flipside Site Coordinator and/or School office.

Program Coordinator

Nikol Gordon

Ms. Nikol is originally from Montana and loves being outdoors. Not camping, I hate camping. OK, I also hate bugs. I like the mountains and like to hike short distances, preferably when it is cooler out. I also love beaches and summertime. I have worked for St Paul Public Schools for over 19 years, 13 of those at Adams Spanish Immersion. I teach swim lessons on the side and love being in the water. Currently I am the Flipside Site Coordinator at Highland Middle School. I got my degree in Educational Studies from Augsburg College. I have two adult children, and two dogs and a new kitten. I love all of them more than anything. I have been known by my past Adams Spanish Immersion colleagues and students and some of my current students, for my crazy hair days, my crush on Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and my goal of reading at least 100 books every year. I love working with Flipside!!

Middle School After-School Activities FAQs

This school year, Flipside programming will be offered at eight middle schools, Extended Day for Learning (EDL) will be offered at seven middle schools, and other after-school activities will vary by school. Please see below for additional information.

Which schools will offer Flipside programs in 2024-25?

With the support of grant funding, Flipside will be offered four days per week at the following schools:

American Indian Magnet School
Battle Creek Middle School
Farnsworth Aerospace Upper Campus
Highland Park Middle School
Humboldt
OWL
Txuj Ci Upper Campus
Washington Technology Magnet School

These programs will run Monday through Thursday and will be supported by full-time Community Education Flipside coordinators in each building. 2024-25 Flipside Calendar

Which schools will offer Extended Day for Learning (EDL) in 2024-25?

Extended Day for Learning (EDL) courses may be offered at the following schools:

Capitol Hill Gifted & Talented Magnet
Creative Arts Secondary
E-STEM Middle School
Hazel Park Preparatory Academy
Hidden River Middle School
Murray Middle School
Global Arts Plus Upper Campus

EDL courses include an academic and/or social component and include active, hands-on alternative learning experiences for students. Popular programs like debate, theater, music, etc. may be offered through EDL and courses may also originate from student interests. EDL programs are taught by school staff and are offered two days per week.
2024-25 Middle School EDL Calendar

Flipside Schools: Yellow bus transportation is provided at Flipside locations to begin the school year, but may be reduced based on program attendance. Consistent student attendance is vital to maintaining transportation availability.
EDL Schools: Yellow bus transportation will NOT be available to start the school year, but may become available later based on route availability and program attendance.
Middle School Athletics: Yellow bus transportation may be available for student athletes at Flipside schools. Families should contact their school’s Athletic Director for more information. EDL schools will NOT have transportation available for athletics at this time due to bus route availability.
