Leadership Change at Highland Park Middle School

Principal John Andrastek

Dear Highland Park Middle School Community,

I am writing to let you know that Principal John Andrastek has informed us that he has decided to retire after the 2023-24 school year. Principal Andrastek will remain at Highland Park Middle School throughout the remainder of this school year. We are grateful for his service to Saint Paul Public Schools for the last 19 years, including the last two as HPMS Principal and five more before that as assistant principal. We will miss Principal Andrastek at Highland Park Middle School, and SPPS will find an excellent leader for this community.

As we move forward in selecting the next principal of Highland Park Middle School, we want to make sure you are informed and involved. The district is posting the full-time principal position this week. We anticipate school level interviews in April. Principal Andrastek will work with the school community to select two parents and two staff members to be part of the interview process. Additionally, the school will also have the opportunity to submit two specific questions to be asked of all candidates during the interview process.

Thank you for supporting your child and Highland Park Middle School. If you have any questions you may contact me at nancy.paez@spps.org.

In Partnership,

Nancy Páez, Assistant Superintendent
